Results of the Chess Version

A big part of what makes tinkering with a chess playing program so much fun, is the great community of people intersted in chess playing programs. They run tests, play tourniaments between programs, and provide invaluable feedback. Here are just two of the bigger tourniament sites, where you will find Sunsetter:

Results of the Crazyhouse Version

I. On chess servers

Crazyhouse Rating on Fics of the Sunsetter account: 2569 (27-Oct-2001) peak with a very unprotective formula on a piii/500. That was #1 on human and #1 on computer only best lists. Goober(C) (running Sunsetter) had the highest rating ever in crazyhouse on Fics, now taken by Indalecio (running Sunsetter): 2722 (08-Sep-2002). Project(C) was #1 on ICC for a short time.

Here is some info with games and positions from our Crazyhouse Computer Championship in the year 2000.

II. Strength && Weaknesses

Like most chess programs Sunsetter is strong at tactics in open positions while clueless at generating strategical attacks.

Here is an example of where it is good at. I was quite proud about this rated 3 0 crazyhouse match on Fics. Update: the current version finds the mate in 80 milliseconds on my Duron800.

White to move and mate.
